Sharon North Jones holds a Master of Music degree in Voice and Opera Performance from Northwestern University where she studied with internationally renowned soprano Sunny Joy Langton. Sharon has performed extensively in opera, concert and musical theater throughout the United States. Some favorites include the role of Lucia in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor with Opera di Cornetto, and Helen Cooper in the world premiere of Under the Arbor with the Alabama Symphony. Sharon has sung in a dozen productions with Opera Omaha, most recently appearing as the Duchess of Mantua in their production of Rigoletto with Fabian Veloz and Rachele Gilmore.
A dedicated music educator, Sharon brings over 25 years of experience as a master vocal pedagogue, adjudicator and clinician to students of all ages. Sharon was co-director of The Center for Voice in Chicago, IL, and has served as the Director of Competitions for the Society of American Musicians, scholarship adjudicator for the University of Nebraska-Omaha, All-State adjudicator for Nebraska Music Educators Association and solo adjudicator for the National Association of Teachers of Singing. She regularly offers vocal clinics for Metro area high schools and she has designed several programs for children and adults including the innovative Jump Start to Singing program for young singers in grades 1-6.
Sharon founded SNJ Studio of Music in 2002 with the goal of nurturing the next generation of musicians and music lovers through top-notch music education. Today, with over 625 students involved in a diverse array of programs, nearly 30 professional faculty and staff, and a beautiful, spacious facility, SNJ Studio of Music is one of the largest private performing arts schools in Nebraska.
